A man shares with the audience his favorite record— the 1928 musical The Drowsy Chaperone. As he plays the record, the show comes to life in his apartment. Mix in two lovebirds on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, and a sleepy chaperone. This combination creates a show that will have everyone laughing.

"Next to Normal," with its book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt, delves into the struggles of a suburban family dealing with crisis and mental illness. Honored with three Tony Awards in 2009, including Best Musical Score, and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, "Next to Normal" has been acclaimed as "one of the year's ten best shows" by critics nationwide, including those from The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times.
The father is an architect, the mother is busy preparing lunches and breakfast, and their daughter and son are sharp, witty teenagers, all portraying an archetypal American family. Yet, their existence is far from normal, as the mother has been fighting bipolar disorder for 16 years. "Next to Normal" invites the audience to peer into the minds and hearts of each character, offering a narrative of their family life filled with love, empathy, and sincerity.
