Mankato Playhouse Broadway Juniors is excited to announce auditions for Seussical Jr., the whimsical musical based on the beloved stories of Dr. Seuss by Tony-winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Join Horton the Elephant, the mischievous Cat in the Hat, JoJo, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie LaBird, and all your favorite Seussian characters as they bring imagination, heart, and fun to life on stage! Seussical Jr. celebrates friendship, loyalty, courage, and the power of “thinks” you can think.

• Ages 10 to 18 are welcome!

Callbacks:

• Tuesday, March 3
• Callback materials and schedule will be provided to those invited.
• Not being called back does not mean you won’t be cast.

Vocal Audition:

• Prepare 30–60 seconds of an uptempo musical theatre song.
• Song choice should showcase your vocal prowess and personality—we want to hear you shine!
• Vocal audition only — no monologue required.
• Please bring sheet music in a binder for the accompanist.

Rehearsals: Monday–Thursday, 5:30–7:30 PM
Tech/Final Rehearsals: No conflicts accepted the last two weeks before performances.
Performance Dates: April 17 – 25, 2026

If cast, a $195 tuition fee is due at the first rehearsal. This fee helps cover production costs including costumes, sets, and professional instruction.

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
